From the very beginning, this project presented significant challenges. The Owners envisioned a lake home that was small but mighty. We faced not only zoning, logistical and site constraints but also an existing structure with questionable construction. Once we identified solutions to these challenges we began the design process. Understanding that lake homes are often gathering places for family and friends, we focused on creating separate functional areas for the Owners and their guests - all within a modestly sized footprint. To address space needs, we carefully designed an addition that integrated with the original home. In our firm's view, a exceptional lakehouse allows the lake to be visible from the front door to the rear. We achieved this by removing nearly every interior wall on the lower level, creating uninterrupted sightlines and lake views from every space. Thoughtfully designed staircases enhance the design while maintaining the cozy cottage charm the Owners cherished. Upstairs the Owners suite includes a balcony deck that overlooks beautiful Delavan Lake. The final result is a lake home that feels expansive, open and inviting.
